Shaftesbury Glen was designed by Clyde Johnston but inspired by A.W. Tillinghast's famed West Course at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., right down to the bentgrass greens. No. 1, a par 4 hole, features a laser straight fairway capped by a Tillinghast-esque elevated green with a flashed up bunker on its left front. Played June 20, 2008: "Three groups from the staff at the Dunes stood out - the attendants meeting our group at 18 to clean our clubs and just have a friendly conversation, especially when they were about to watch the CEO and his 'friends' from Samsung Corp. tee off; the course marshals, always looking to help and inquire as to how our round was going; and the young lady at the grill/bar offering local knowledge of restaurants and pubs openly, and with a pleasant and friendly outlook. That's what the term 'Ambassador' is all about, and especially when you are the public's connection to any business."
