Our first round and it was excellent. A little bit of a drive down Highway 9, but worth it. Very friendly staff.

I have played at Black Bear before, but it was in the best condition I have ever seen it. The fairways were great and around the greens as nice as I have played.

The staff was fine, however, compared to 2009 not even close. I doubt we play BB again anytime soon. The course is OK but the staff last year made the place special.

(1) Grill was closed by the time we finished 18 holes (~5pm). Would like to see it stay open somewhat longer. (2) Had to wait ~30 minutes after 9 holes to start the back 9. This was frustrating and not acceptable. If we had not prepaid through the package, we would have requested a refund at this point. (3) Ranger patrol could have been more prevalent. The group behind us hit into us twice, once on the front 9 and once on the back 9. We finally saw a course ranger on hole 17 and let him know of the situation. Starters and rangers need to mention "golf courtesy" at the beginning of the round, especially to younger golfers. (4) Some of the greens were "patchy," but overall the course was in good shape. I enjoyed the course itself and would play it again.

Greens had been recently aerated. Very bumpy. Fairways and tees in good shape. Starter Ben forgot about the second foursome of our group. I had to remind him twice when he got us confused with another group. Then Ben put a single behind our foursome, he ended up hitting into us all day. I didn't think a single was allowed on the course on a Saturday. We won't be going back. Not worth the drive.

For the money, I LOVE THIS COURSE. One of my most favorite courses in the North Myrtle Beach area. Always in good shape, nicely run, fun to play. Not the most challenging course, but then again I don't want every course I play to be a 130+ slope. Fairways are open and don't require a down the middle shot on every hole. Greens are challenging and large. Like I said ... I just enjoy this course.

By far, the least favorite of all the courses we played. Fairways were thin - greens were ragged. Our group (12 of us) gave this course very low ratings. Maybe it was the time of year that we played it (March 9) but we voted not to return again. Many holes seemed too narrow and too close to each other. Be prepared - lots of water. We did not stay to eat or drink.

I thought the course was in O.K. condition. It is understandable, though, with the winter the area has had. I liked the layout a lot and thought it was challenging. Would love to play it during mid-season when the greens are in better condition.

The grass was long due to over seeding and the rain prior to our arrival. We had played there before and know it could have been better.

This was the last course that I played during my recent trip to Myrtle Beach, and for the $40 green fee it was the best value course. The course was in very good shape with medium-fast, very undulating greens and tight, narrow fairways. Even though the course looks wide open in many places, if you don't hit the short grass it's 50-50 that you will be able to hit the green. Black Bear is going to be on my list for next year.

Didn't like this course - too wide open - can see 6 or 7 holes from a single teebox - not a premium course but I don't consider $61 to be a bargain price for a course of this nature.
