It was my first experience and they made the situation easy. I was playing with my 4-year-old grandson, who loves to play golf. The starter was very nice and understood our dilemma. Especially, that we would probably be playing slow. He let us go off as a twosome which made it so enjoyable. Thanks MBN-West Course.

Beautiful course in great condition. Would like to know why they started a junior tournament off on the back nine. When we made the turn, they were just getting started. Also no beverage cart came around on the back nine. Was only 100* out. Wanted more than a drink of water.

It seemed to be overbooked and it took us almost 5 hrs. due to congestion and such, we asked for just a threesome and where told that would be OK and then at the tee we where told we had a single joing us. I still like the course but like to enjoy the round and not feel like it is overcrowded.

We booked a 5:30 p.m. tee time because it was the first available at the 'twilight' rate. Course staff was surprised that happened?! But it made for a wonderfully enjoyable round for us - no one pushing (except the cart guys, who wanted us in). We completed 18 prior to a beautiful sunset ... For us it was a great round.

Just a flat course with plenty of sand, nothing outstanding or memorable. The tees and fairways were in great shape. Greens were the worst I played all week. The ball would bounce all the way to the hole. This was probably due to Bermuda greens: I just don't like 'em. Staff and service was great.

Course was in good condition, service was great, but it was a course lacking in any WOW factor for me. This was probably not helped by my playing with others who played off the whites so I did too, which meant that many of the par 4s were a bit short for my driver. A solid track, but I would try others ahead of it on my next trip.

This course met all the expectations. An incredibly friendly pro shop staff. The cart guys were very helpful with proper suggestions on how to play the West Course. As a single, i went off as a twosome. Ahead of us were two foursomes playing a best ball. The starter was very known on the front side and kept a very good pace of play. The back nine, the starter was not seen as frequently as the front, causing a a bit of a delay. My partner left after 14, I skipped a few holes and at least finished ##18. The pro shop went above and beyond to make up for the delay. The course was in great shape. Will play this course everytime I am in Myrtle Beach.

They put a junior tournament out in front of us on the back nine without telling us. It took an hour to play 3 holes and we had three groups waiting on the par 3 13th tee. We left at that point, figuring we didn't want to play the back nine in 3 1/2 hours.

The West Course is my favorite course to play in Myrtle Beach! We have played it several times, and always make it a point to play it each time we go to Myrtle Beach. The course was in immaculate condition considering the time of year; the greens were very fast, which is to our liking. What we like best about the West Course is the layout through the woodlands area and all the wildlife you see. We don't like playing courses that wind through neighborhoods, so the West Course is perfect for us. We have played other courses designed by Mr. Palmer and find them all to be very challenging and fair (unlike Pete Dye courses).
It's always a pleasure to tour Mr. Palmer's gallery at the clubhouse, and it's hard not to be a little overwhelmed by the setting. The pro shop is one of the best I have ever seen, and the inside staff very helpful. However, the cart attendants left a lot to be desired... It was a little busy when we got there so we had to unload our clubs, which wasn't that big of a deal. One of the attendants did greet us after we unloaded and told us to go ahead and check in and then they would put us in a cart. After checking in and returning to the bag area, our clubs were still where we had left them and no attendant to be found so we ended up loading them ourselves. It wasn't a big deal, but it's not the kind of service we've come to expect from MBN after all these years. My husband is a cart attendant at Biltmore Forest CC in Asheville, NC, and he said that this lack of service would be grounds for dismissal if he should fail to accomodate a member or guest after speaking with them and saying he would get them set up. But we didn't mind, and it wasn't that big of a deal to us. It won't stop us from returning there in the future.
And the rates we payed were even cheaper than the public courses we play at home. Thank you for setting us up, and we will definitely be turning to you for future bookings. We are still puzzled as to why it cost more at Possum Trot than at MBN. PT is more like a public course and MBN feels like a private country club!

The West is still well worth playing if you want a course of moderate cost and difficulty. It has been nicely upgraded in recent years, not as obvious as King's North but adding a lot to the quality of the experience. The greens were as good as any I played in MB in 2009. The course has a wonderful flow to it, easy par fives give a great scoring opportunity. You can walk -- and should if it is cart paths only. This course is approaching 50 years old now as has a great feeling of maturity -- many showier layouts have followed MBN West but you still get a wonderful feeling playing it.

As with SouthCreek, the course was a little wet, but the greens were excellent. We played 36 holes and didn't feel rushed at all. I always enjoy the greens at the West Course, as they have tricky slopes and run very fast, especially on downhill putts.

Fairways were wet. Cart path only with carts. That makes the game more challenging but nonetheless still very enjoyable. It would be nice if there were more restrooms along the course.

Least favorite of the three courses we played (including Arrowhead, Legends-Parkland). Ho-hum course that was not in the best of shape. To be fair, there was considerable rainfall two days before we played.

We had a 12:30 approx. tee time. Didn't tee off until 1:30. The starter kept putting groups in front of us even though there were times when the tee box was empty for 10-15 minutes. We finished in the dusky times.

Weather caused the fairways to be wet. I would have liked to have known that it was cart path only as I am 82 years old and it is difficult for me to keep a good pace when I have to walk a lot as I get tired.

We normally play the South course but due to aerating we played the West Course. We were a little unsure of this course because of the houses along the course, much to our surprise it was wide open and the housing was not a problem. We would definitely play the West again and not confine ourselves to the south.

I have played the West Course before and recall it being in better shape. The tees and greens were good, a couple of bare spots here and there. However, the fairways were in okay shape. Many had areas that were resodded in which the course allowed for a local rule of a free drop. However, the staff at MBN is top notch.

The course was in great shape. The fairways were well cared for, the greens ran true, and I loved the different lengths on the par 3s. Loved the front, middle and back on the yardage markers which were highlighted with paint so they could be easily identified. This course is not as fun as SouthCreek or King's North, I didn't get to use many different clubs. I always seemed to be the same distance out.

MBN overall is one of the finest golf experiences I have ever had. The staff really caters to your every need, the courses are immaculate, and you just can't beat the price. The West course was forgiving which was welcomed on just my 3rd round of the year. Wide fairways gave me a chance to do better. Plenty of places to get into trouble but recovery wasn't too difficult. I played the Southcreek course as well and liked it even more. Enough to come back for an extra round. The front 9 on Southcreek are perhaps my favorite holes anywhere.

They were doing some repairs in the fairways on the front 9, but it's difficult to complain since they are making the effort to improve the course. Fairways that were not under maintenance were in good shape. Really enjoyed my round here. Course is not too difficult and fairly easy off of the tee. Greens were in excellent shape. Pace of play was also good. Overall, this is one of the best bang-for-the-buck courses in Myrtle Beach. This is the 2nd time I've played MBN West and look forward to playing again in the future.

It was in great shape, and we loved the Par 3 finish! We gave this course a solid 8. We played King's North last year and loved it, now we will be back to play the South Course also next year. The starter was a great guy for us, not sure if it was the same day, but very nice older gentleman. Thanks for the awesome picture taken of us on the first tee also.

On some holes, if you hit a bad shot you can recover easily; other holes, not so well. This is one course every one should play while in Myrtle Beach. I have never played a round of golf that long before the course was great but the slowness was unbearable we had a golfing party ahead of us that played slow and in my foursome I was paired up with a 74 yr old couple who just started playing golf and they were slow also. 1st group out on West Course. Played front in 2:15. Made turn at 10th hole only to run into three (3) groups stacked on #10. Asked Ranger how that happens to 1st group out and god irritated answer of "we double tee". When asked why they put three groups on 10th tee when the 1st group is making the turn, just got blank stare and suggestion to "fill out a comment card". Played back 9 in 3.5 hours! VERY poorly managed spacing on tee times and arrogant/rude rangers. Course in average shape. Would not go back.

Beautiful, challenging and fun. One of my favorite courses ever played. Definitely recommended.

of the 4 courses I played this weekend. by far my favorite. The fairways and greens were 5 star. When I come back down to play again, Myrtle Beach National West will be my first choice.

Course was in great shape and played the first 9 in considerably less than 2 hours, then pro shop let group of 24 out in front of us at turn. We waited half an hour at the turn and finished round in 5 hours. Ridiculous for course that tries to stress pace of play.

Enjoyable track. Just the kind of layout for someone who hasn't played since last August. Had one warm-up round yesterday.
